ruffle lantern.

I've decided that I'm incredibly bad at blogging. I mean, for Pete's sake. Is it still called a blog when it's this sporadic? Anyway, I decided to share some of the things that I made last year for my apartment. I did say I would so that once... A long time ago. Not the point.

When I was planning my room design, I was hoping to find something cute to do with my icky old paper lantern light. I saw some ideas on Pinterest that basically all included keeping the lantern as-is and adding little doodads, which I didn't like because I pretty much hate the look of a paper lantern. Did you know doodads is actually a word? I didn't.

I finally found one that is ruffly and pretty and perfect, so voila! I made one myself. I got soooo many compliments on it, and it was really very easy. It just takes somewhere around infinity hours to complete. I will show you how I did it here, but I'm sure there are other ways to do it.

Start with a paper lantern and around 800 coffee filters. I got a set of coffee filters at Sam's. Hold the coffee filter in one hand as shown on the left and then grab it with the other hand as shown on the right. Highly technical pictures, I know.

The bottom of this ruffle in your hand will be a polygon of some sort. Put hot glue on the edges of this polygon and attach it to the lantern, starting at the top.

Repeat this process as many times as it takes to cover your lantern, making sure the edges of your polygon are touching other polygon edges so that you don't have too much space.

I think mine took a total of 8 hours, so grab a bunch of movies and get started!
